What Did We Want to Know?
Question Asked: Between soils found in a forest and soils found on a college campus, which soil samples will contain more nematodes and have more species diversity. How will humans interaction with the soil impact said nematode populations.
Hypothesis: There will be more nematodes of more species present in the forest soil because there is less human contact with the soil.
Prediction: If soils with less human interaction have more nematodes, then human interaction may have a negative impact on soil health.
According to a paper done on how urbanized and industrial agriculture lowers richness (how many species of us there are) and abundance (how many of us wormy folk are there) while the forest samples they looked at showed higher numbers in both these categories(Pothula et al. 2019)! We love our undisturbed soil home!
